Texas Gov. Greg Abbott didn’t mince words when responding to his executive order concerning the transportation of illegal immigrants being blocked by a federal judge. However, Abbott didn’t take it up with the judge, he took it up with the person who prompted the transportation in the first place.
For you see, what most Americans seem to either not know, or be turning a blind eye to, is that if there is a COVID-19 superspreader to end all superspreaders, it’s the southern border of the United States. And since the end of former President Donald Trump’s ban on the “catch and release” program, anyone caught, detained, not found to be a known criminal or formerly deported, who claims to want asylum, gets given a court date, and released back into the United States on their own recognizance.
In other words, they’re set free to do what they want (and here’s the kicker) REGARDLESS OF COVID STATUS.
Due to his deep concern on that issue, Abbott issued an executive order that restricted the transportation of illegal immigrants, due to COVID-19. In other words, if we can’t keep them from coming in, we can at least keep them somewhat centrally located and not fanning out to other locations.
U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone, however, had other plans when she granted a temporary restraining order against the governor’s order on Tuesday, allowing immigrants to once again be moved once, regardless of their health or their COVID status.
To say that Abbott was hot under the collar would be an understatement. The governor took up his case in the court of public opinion on Tuesday saying that “The Court’s recent order is temporary and based on limited evidence. We look forward to providing the Court with the evidence to support the Governor’s Executive Order to protect Texans,” Abbott’s office said in a statement on Tuesday.
In a blast meant directly for the current president of the United States, Abbott said that “The Biden Administration has knowingly — and willfully — released COVID-19 positive migrants into Texas communities, risking the potential exposure and infection of Texas residents,” the statement continued. “The Governor’s Executive Order attempts to prevent the Biden Administration from spreading COVID-19 into Texas and protect the health and safety of Texans,” Abbott’s office added.
On Tuesday evening Abbott doubled down, saying in a tweet that “The Biden admin. FAILED to secure the border. Now, they’re blocking us from protecting Texans from COVID-positive migrants. We look forward to presenting our case in court, keeping Texans safe, & holding Biden accountable.”
To be clear about what’s at stake, what the Biden administration was putting a stop to was the practice that allows for, in addition to DPS officers and border patrol agents being exposed to COVID and other troubling health concerns brought from the southern border, now even the COVID positive are just being set free, oftentimes without a plan for where to live or where to find food and clothing, so they find something like a homeless shelter or some other charitable organization who can’t possibly cope with COVID protocols and start to allow for more and more spread of whatever it is they were exposed to before they came or on the trip, or while being detained by Customs and Border Patrol.
Abbott says Biden is “lying to America” about the situation at the border. Attorney General Merrick Garland threatened Abbott with legal action if he didn’t rescind his order about the transportation. And Biden is primarily engaged in a word salad with a few lucid moments played in a loop by the mainstream media. So, eat your Wheaties, America (especially Texas), because Mom and Dad are fighting and unlikely to get you any help to stay healthy.
