Bartender. Student. Fortune teller?
Apparently, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thinks that she can now predict the future. Like the fabled Miss Cleo of the late ’90s, she is convinced that she can tell where America is headed, and she wants to change that. Unfortunately, she doesn’t quite have her crystal ball tuned in properly. Just like her weather-girl accent, her predictions just don’t make any sense. Especially from someone who is representing part of NYC in Congress.
While speaking to The New Yorker magazine for an interview published on Monday, she shed some of her wisdom upon its readers. “What we risk is having a government that perhaps postures as a democracy, and may try to pretend that it is, but isn’t. I think we will look like ourselves. I think we will return to Jim Crow. I think that’s what we risk.”
Strangely, she thinks that we are returning there. Although inter-racial relations are improving on an ever-growing basis, and if anything, the page is turning as people now must be ashamed to be white, straight, or male in this new liberal society. Somehow, each of us is responsible for the actions of people decades ago. Her nonsensical ideas are kept only by the people who do not get out and truly explore America. The people who stay where they are comfortable and never take any chances.
Should AOC somehow find herself in a situation where she is surrounded by people who aren’t just going to hand her thousands of dollars to keep her campaign going and is, instead, with real Americans, she will see just how misguided her predictions are. Then again, she is one of the loudest voices also calling for the end of cash bail based upon the idea that it’s racist.
Back in 2020, she tweeted “Does anyone believe Rittenhouse would be released if he were Muslim & did the same thing in a diff context? For people who say ‘systemic racism doesn’t exist,’ this is what it looks like: protection of white supremacy baked deep into our carceral systems.” Unfortunately for her, there are a wide variety of things to consider in situations like these, and many of those things go gravely overlooked. To simply focus on skin color as the only difference is nonsensical.
Then again, it’s also nonsensical to compare different cases, in different courtrooms, with different judges, and different defendants. Each case is different, and the circumstances behind the crimes provide for varying degrees of resolution to the crime. Even speeding has different reasons behind it and different outcomes. AOC’s oversimplification of crimes as well as her on-again-off-again cries about cash bail make it very difficult for people to have an intelligent debate about the programs.
What is certain is that we are not shying away from Democracy unless AOC and the rest of her progressive cronies somehow start winning and implementing their horrific ideas. We won’t return to the Jim Crow days without their changes, either. People like AOC fail to recognize just how young this country is in comparison to other countries across the globe. In that short time, we have undergone some major stumbling blocks and some horrible decisions. Decisions we are still making right today.
As we make those decisions right, we are instituting better ideas and planning. We are working to involve the people and try to do what’s best for the majority. Less special interests and less progressive campaigns that do nothing to make things equal. These ideas just go over the heads of the progressive left, as they refuse to listen to or identify with any way but their own way; a way that will destroy democracy and could bring back Jim Crow in a different fashion. Perhaps she’s just wishing out loud and not predicting the future?
