If you’ve ever been to a Home Depot in Los Angeles, you’ve likely seen day laborers gathered in the parking lot offering to work. Many of them are illegal immigrants, and ICE has conducted raids at locations across Southern California this summer, picking up serious offenders.
One raid in Sacramento resulted in eleven arrests. Border Patrol revealed that five of those detained had criminal histories, including three convicted felons. Among them was a fentanyl trafficker and a sex offender who fled agents, broke into a nearby apartment, and assaulted the occupant.
Despite this reality, LA City Councilmember Ysabel Jurado is directing her anger not at the criminals, but at Home Depot. Channeling the same progressive instincts that once drove Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to kill 25,000 New York jobs by chasing Amazon away, Jurado demanded that the hardware chain abandon plans for a new superstore in her district.
“Take your orange aprons somewhere else. Home Depot has no place in Eagle Rock,” Jurado declared on Instagram.
Home Depot is seeking to build the store on the site of a former Macy’s at Eagle Rock Plaza. Documents filed with the city planning department outline the redevelopment plan, which would create jobs and investment in the community. Instead of supporting economic growth, Jurado vowed to oppose the project.
She accused the company of being “complicit” in raids on illegal immigrants, though Home Depot has made clear it does not coordinate with federal authorities and is required to follow all laws in every market. “We are not informed of the raids in advance, do not request them, and comply with federal and local rules and regulations,” the company responded.
Her attack fits a larger pattern. Like Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, and California Governor Gavin Newsom, Jurado is focused on fighting enforcement rather than fixing the lawlessness devastating communities. Progressive officials consistently prioritize ideological purity over public safety.
Instead of using her position to welcome jobs and encourage growth, Jurado is intent on chasing away business opportunities in the name of protecting illegal immigration. Residents of Eagle Rock are left with shuttered stores, crime problems, and a council member more worried about scoring points with activists than improving daily life.
While Democrats like Jurado rail against companies that provide jobs and services, they ignore the very real consequences of unchecked illegal immigration—rising crime, drug trafficking, and community insecurity. The people they represent pay the price.
Conservatives know the truth: enforcing the law protects families, strengthens communities, and builds prosperity. Home Depot doesn’t need to apologize for following the law. What Los Angeles needs are leaders willing to stand with the people, not criminals.
The Democrat Party’s attacks on businesses and law enforcement are driving voters away in record numbers. Americans are choosing order, safety, and prosperity over radical left politics. And no matter how loudly progressives shout, the tide is turning toward common sense.
