When Sen. Cory Booker raised his arm in a stiff, straight gesture at a California Democrat event, left-wing media outlets rushed to dismiss it as a harmless wave. But when Elon Musk made a nearly identical gesture months earlier—complete with the words “my heart goes out to you”—they exploded in outrage, branding it a “Nazi salute” and warning of fascist dog whistles.
The double standard couldn’t be clearer. And nowhere was it more hilariously exposed than in a viral post from leftist pundit Keith Olbermann.
Responding to criticism from WalkAway founder Brandon Straka, Olbermann scoffed, “Musk’s hand is closed, fingers together. That’s a salute. Booker’s fingers are opened. That’s a wave goodbye. Brandon’s brain is devoid of cells. That’s an IQ of 27.”
Except Elon’s hand was open. Just like Booker’s. The gestures were nearly identical—and yet only one of them was deemed dangerous.
This is where we are now: leftists so desperate to preserve their “Republicans are fascists” narrative that they’re arguing about the spacing of fingers in an extended arm motion. Forget the fact that Elon Musk spoke kindly during his gesture, or that Booker said nothing at all. The left’s rule is simple: Republicans are always guilty. Democrats are always innocent.
And they wonder why trust in the media is cratering.
RedState’s Nick Arama noted the absurdity: “If we take this position, if your hand isn’t exactly the position that Keith demands, it’s a Nazi salute, right? That’s nuts.”
Indeed, the very same media outlets that spent days trashing Musk for his gesture are now dismissing Booker’s move and framing any criticism of it as a MAGA conspiracy. Their defense? A vague combination of finger position, intent, and political affiliation.
Meanwhile, the actual extremism roiling Democrat strongholds—Hamas sympathizers rioting on campuses, anti-Israel hate mobs, and Jewish students being threatened—goes largely unreported. But wave your hand the wrong way as a Republican? Instant scandal.
Even Musk weighed in again this week, reminding the public why he refers to mainstream media as “one big psy op.” It’s not just the lies—it’s the manufactured hysteria and calculated silence.
Booker’s gesture wasn’t a Nazi salute. Neither was Musk’s. But the media’s wildly different reaction to the same act reveals everything about their agenda.
It’s not about hand motions. It’s about power, narrative control, and smearing political enemies. And Olbermann’s meltdown proves they’re willing to embarrass themselves publicly to keep that going.
