Immigration and Customs Enforcement has opened the “Louisiana Lockup” inside the Louisiana State Penitentiary, converting an unused section into 416 additional detention beds. The Department of Homeland Security plans to house the “worst of the worst” illegal immigrants there, putting violent offenders behind bars where they belong.

A joint appearance is set this week with DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, Attorney General Pam Bondi, ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan, and Gov. Jeff Landry to walk through the plan. The expansion follows new ICE facilities launched recently in Florida, Indiana, Nebraska, and Texas—an unmistakable pattern of capacity building to enforce the law.

“To the worst of the worst: Welcome to the LOUISIANA LOCKUP,” Jeff Landry wrote.

“Criminal illegal aliens beware: Louisiana Lockup is where your time in America ends,” Landry said. “Louisiana Lockup will give ICE the space it needs to lock up some of the worst criminal illegal aliens — murderers, rapists, pedophiles, drug traffickers, and gang members — so they can no longer threaten our families and communities. This facility fulfills President Trump’s Make America Safe Again promise. I want to thank President Trump, Secretary Kristi Noem, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Deputy ICE Director Madison Sheahan for their leadership and partnership. Together, we’re making Louisiana and America safer.”

“If you are in this country illegally, you could find yourself in the Louisiana Lockup,” the department wrote. “Avoid arrest and self deport now using the CBP Home App.”

Early movement is already underway. DHS confirmed that 51 immigrants have been transferred to the new detention center, with more to follow as the crackdown expands and high-risk cases are prioritized.

“Today, we’re announcing a new partnership with the state of Louisiana to expand detention space,” Noem stated. “Thank you to Governor Landry for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country. If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in CECOT, Cornhusker Clink, Speedway Slammer, or Louisiana Lockup. Avoid arrest and self-deport now using the CBP Home App.”

CECOT—Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo—is the maximum-security prison in El Salvador where the administration has sent suspected gang members. Pairing that option with hardened U.S. sites like the Louisiana Lockup makes clear that violent offenders will face real consequences wherever they operate.

The approach is straightforward: add secure beds, target the most dangerous offenders, and press the advantage so local communities finally see relief. The 416-bed expansion is aimed squarely at murderers, rapists, pedophiles, drug traffickers, and gang members—precisely the profile that puts families at risk and overwhelms local police.

This is the kind of decisive action conservative voters expect—measurable, targeted, and unapologetically focused on public safety. When the federal government provides capacity and backup, sheriffs and police departments can move faster, and prosecutors can keep the worst actors in custody while cases move.

Critics will complain about optics and process. But parents and small-business owners have a simpler priority: stop violent criminals and traffickers from cycling through the system and terrorizing neighborhoods. The Louisiana Lockup answers that demand with steel, staffing, and a clear plan.

President Trump ran on restoring order and enforcing the law, and this is exactly that. Keep scaling the beds, keep transferring the worst offenders, and keep the pressure on the cartels and their networks. Back the victims, back the cops, and back the mission—because a safer America is a promise worth keeping.
