State Rep. Laurel Libby (R-ME) has been officially censured—and worse, barred from voting or speaking on the House floor—after posting a photo on Facebook of a biological male who recently claimed a girls’ state championship in pole-vaulting. Just one year earlier, the same athlete competed (and lost) in the boys’ division. Libby’s post simply highlighted the obvious: that biological males should not compete in girls’ sports.
For Democrats, that was apparently too much. House Speaker Ryan Fecteau didn’t just slap Libby with a censure. He stripped her of her rights as a representative, silencing her completely. That means every voter in Libby’s district is now effectively disenfranchised.

Even in moments of political scandal or misconduct, voting rights were preserved.
