President Trump struck a major deal with Pfizer on Tuesday. The pharmaceutical giant agreed to slash drug prices for Medicaid patients. Some medications will cost 85 percent less than current prices.
The agreement creates a new website called TrumpRx. The federal government will operate the site. It sells drugs directly to consumers.
No more middlemen taking their cut.
Trump’s deal gives Pfizer something in return. The company gets a three-year grace period on new tariffs. Those tariffs target pharmaceuticals made outside the country. They take effect Wednesday.
The discounts cover most of Pfizer’s primary care medicines. Specialty brand-name drugs are included too. A company spokesperson said discounts will average 50 percent. Some reach as high as 85 percent.
The numbers are staggering.
Pfizer’s menopause drug Duavee will cost just $30. That’s an 85 percent reduction. The overactive bladder drug Toviaz drops 85 percent to $42. Eucrisa, a skin ointment, sees an 80 percent cut to $162.
A senior Trump administration official provided the launch timeline. They hope to get TrumpRX running by early 2026. The site should be operational within months.
Other pharmaceutical companies are following Trump’s lead. They’re selling directly to consumers now too. Novo Nordisk makes Ozempic. They launched their own website. Eli Lilly produces Zepbound. They did the same thing.
The trend is clear. Middlemen are being cut out.
Trump spoke about the announcement. He knows how significant this is.
“This is a really big announcement. This is something that most people said was not doable.”
The president proved the doubters wrong again.
Americans desperately need relief from drug costs. A 2022 Kaiser Family Foundation survey showed the problem. Three out of four American adults believe medications are too expensive.
They’re right to feel that way.
Trump has been working on this issue for years. Back in May, he signed an executive order. It directed federal officials to tie drug payments to overseas costs. The government would pay what other countries pay.
Now he’s delivering real results.
The TrumpRx website represents a new model. The federal government steps in to help citizens. They negotiate directly with drug makers. They create a platform that cuts out the expensive middlemen.
Insurance companies and pharmacy benefit managers have dominated the system. They add layers of costs. They take their profits. Patients pay the price.
Trump is changing that system.
The Pfizer deal shows what’s possible. When the president negotiates directly, Americans win. The company gets tariff relief. Patients get affordable medications. Everyone benefits except the middlemen.
More deals are likely coming. If Pfizer agreed to this, other companies will follow. They’ll want the same tariff relief. They’ll want access to TrumpRx.
The dominos are starting to fall.
Trump promised to lower drug prices during his campaign. He said he would take on Big Pharma. He would fight for everyday Americans. He would make medications affordable again.
He’s keeping that promise.
The three-year grace period on tariffs is strategic. It gives companies time to move manufacturing back to America. Trump wants drugs made here. The tariff threat pushes them in that direction.
American jobs and lower prices. That’s the goal.
TrumpRx launches soon. Americans will finally have an alternative. They won’t need to pay inflated prices anymore. They won’t need to navigate complex insurance schemes.
They’ll just go to TrumpRx and buy what they need.
The president said it was not doable. Experts claimed it couldn’t happen. They said pharmaceutical companies would never agree.
Trump proved them all wrong.
