Trump’s Deportation Train is Already Rolling As Mexico Builds Shelters

Mexico is already feeling the impact of Trump’s election on illegal immigration, and it’s not a “surprise, surprise” moment. While Trump is still gathering his things for the White House, Mexico is preparing for a deluge of deportations, bracing for the “largest mass deportation program” in U.S. history. Of course, that’s the plan—Trump made it a cornerstone of his campaign. He’s all about cracking down on illegal immigration, and it looks like he’s not wasting any time—well, at least Mexico isn’t.

The government of Baja California has announced that by January 20, when Trump takes office, it will have 25 new shelters ready to take in those unlucky enough to be sent packing. And these aren’t just any shelters—they’re strategically designed to house every type of deportee, from families to unaccompanied minors, as well as single women and men. Six of the shelters will be in Tijuana, the largest city in Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s state. Tijuana is 20 miles South of San Deigo.

Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda made it clear that she’s expecting Trump to be “stricter and tougher” than ever when it comes to deportations, and honestly, we can’t blame her. After all, Trump’s been pretty vocal about his plans to launch Operation “Get ‘Em All Out,” even hinting at using military resources. Apparently, this is already being treated like an inevitability, with Mexican officials scrambling to get everything in place before the floodgates open.

Rosa Icela Rodríguez, Mexico’s Interior Secretary, has been collaborating with the governors on the northern border with the United States to develop a plan for creating 25 shelters. According to Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmedo, the new shelters will serve exclusively the citizens of Mexico.

All this shows one thing: Trump’s election might not have put his mass deportation machine into full gear yet, but it’s already working its magic. Mexico’s on alert, and the deportees are about to find out just how real his promises were.
