Under the Biden administration, the floodgates have opened, and not in a good way. The country has seen a surge of illegal immigrants crossing the border, which, surprise, surprise, isn’t just a lively cultural exchange. No, it’s brought along some hefty economic and social hurdles.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is feeling generous, doling out $300 million to sanctuary cities for playing Monopoly to those who skipped the immigration line. Because, you know, why bother with legal proceedings when you can just crash on American soil?

The government will hand out $300 million to sanctuary cities that offer shelter and sustenance to illegal immigrants in response to a significant increase in border crossings. As per an April 12 announcement, this funding, part of the Shelter and Services Program (SSP), aims to assist non-federal entities like NGOs and local governments in supporting illegal immigrants released into the United States by DHS.

Of the $300 million, an initial allocation of $275 million will be disbursed, with the remaining $25 million slated for later distribution to fulfill operational needs.

The funds will support 55 grant recipients, who will provide much-needed assistance to migrants awaiting immigration proceedings. The aid will cover temporary shelter costs and other essential expenses, including food, transportation, healthcare, personal hygiene, facility adjustments, language translation services, outreach efforts, and other administrative expenses. In addition to the $300 million, DHS has earmarked another $340.9 million for the SSP competitive grant program.

Sanctuary cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, New Orleans, New York City, and San Francisco have been notable beneficiaries of such programs, receiving well over $780 million in funding last year.

The Biden administration’s increased funding coincides with a sharp rise in illegal immigration. In fiscal year 2021, border patrol agents encountered 1.73 million individuals at the southwest land border. This figure climbed to 2.37 million in fiscal year 2022 and to 2.47 million in 2023, with 1.34 million encounters recorded in the first five months of the current fiscal year. Between October 2021 and March 2024, encounters totaled over 7.9 million according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Meanwhile, as the numbers climb higher than a politician’s promises during campaign season, House Speaker Mike Johnson is giving us a different scoop: nearly 16 million illegal immigrants have had the grand tour of the U.S. courtesy of the Biden administration. Johnson attributes this surge to policy decisions that have intentionally relaxed border controls.

The Biden administration introduced the Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans (CHNV) program in January 2023, granting individuals from these nations lawful residence and work rights for two years under humanitarian parole.

According to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), hundreds of thousands of individuals from these nations were flown into 43 American airports last year through CBP-approved flights. However, CBP has refrained from disclosing the names of these airports, citing operational vulnerabilities.

Former President Donald Trump has strongly criticized the Biden administration’s border policies, promising stricter measures if he returns to office, including terminating existing policies and initiating large-scale deportations. Trump recently warned Social Security could “collapse” because of Biden’s policies. I

Trump alleges that Biden’s immigration policies disproportionately harm African American and Hispanic-American communities by taking away job opportunities and straining social security programs. He warns of the detrimental impact on Medicare and Social Security due to the unsustainable influx of illegal immigrants.

At a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Trump stated, “If the millions of Biden migrants are allowed to stay as Joe Biden intends, they will cost taxpayers trillions of dollars, and Medicare and Social Security will buckle and collapse!”

But hey, who needs Social Security anyway, right? I’m sure retirees won’t mind sharing their slice of the pie with a few million extra guests. After all, nothing screams “retirement plan” like a system on the verge of collapse.
